The Fake Quran

Rumors had been spreading widely and hitting emails (including mine, check your email you might received one too) claiming that an American printing company, the Omega 2001 and Wine Press Publication was involved in publishing of a book titled The Furqan. Believed to be distributed to children in Kuwait in the private English schools. The rumor goes as far as saying it is available at $3. Now I do not know for sure purpose of this book existence or the publisher agenda, but would like to emphasize that this book contains some part of the real Quran and some part have been modified infused with the contents of The New Testament. I’ve checked out the book and yes the contents were a combination of Arabic scripture and translated in English language. Instead of Bismillah, each Surah begins with a longer version that incorporating the Christian belief of the three spirits. Below are sample:

With the writer unidentified and a fishy publisher, it is well understood why a number of reviewers have jumped to the conclusion that an American/Western/Zionist conspiracy stands behind this work aimed at misguiding the young Muslim minds away from their true religion and the true Quran.

Shayk Ikrimah Sabri, a preacher of Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque made an allegation that United States was involved and is "forcing Muslims to renounce the Quran and adopt the book Al Furqan al-Haqq (The True Quran)”. The United States, however denying this allegation and in their official website USINFO.STATE.GOV. They stated that:
  1. The True Furqan was not published in Israel, according to its translator, Dr. Anis Shorrosh.
  2. The True Furqan was written in Arabic and translated into English by evangelical Christian Arabs who have no connection with the U.S. government. The book contains both the Arabic and English texts.
  3. The True Furqan is a private attempt by evangelical Christian Arabs to convert Muslims to Christianity. Its translator, Dr. Anis Shorrosh, describes it as "a tool to evangelize Muslims."
  4. Dr. Shorrosh says the book is similar to the Quran "in style and substance ... but contains the gospel message."
Put the rumor aside, the facts are this book was published in 1999, by Wine Pr Pub. it is widely known as The True Quran or the 21st Century Quran in the U.S. It was written by Al-Saffee (no a real name). It is over 366 pages and is in both the Arabic and English languages. It is available in hardcover copy and online reading. As I look at it, the name of the book itself implies that it has no originality, by imitating the name of the holy book Al-Quran. The book is even printed in the Islamic green color, however that’s where the similarity ends. It is not a new Quran, or Bible for that matter. I believe the only reason why this book came to the surface is because of the negative publicity it received among the Muslims through their chain emails. Soon it will hit the media and provoked reactions among some Muslims just like the Lego ad. So parents, check what your children are reading!
